frequently asked questions
Q1. What is gile[s]?
A1. A lightmapping program, which can create lightmaps for 3D models. A lightmap is a texture/image that contains information about light and shadow. The lightmap is 'baked' into the surfaces of the 3D models, so that you may view it from any angle.
Q2. Why would you use gile[s] if you already have a main animation/rendering package?
A2. The great difference between a normal raytrace rendering program, and a lightmapping program is that with a lightmap the light and shadow is stored 3 dimensionally, and applied to the model. A normal rendering program produces flat 2D renderings that can only be viewed from one angle, lightmaps allows you to walk inside and around your fully lit 3d models in realtime.
Q3. How do I use it?
A3. gile[s] is used much like any other 3D editing software, you can load in 3D models, place lights and render. The big difference is that gile[s] renders your 3D models from all angles at once, so you you can walk through them with high quality lighting in realtime.
Q4. Can I use it with my game editor/engine?
A4. gile[s] supports many popular 2d and 3d file formats, so chances are the answer is yes!
Q5. Are upgrades free?
A5. Yes! Minor upgrades and bug fixes are free. All users having purchased version 1.x can freely download the latest version 1.x.
As a special offer gile[s] version 2.0 will be a free upgrade for registered version 1.x users.
